In the 18th century, the town of Pula, after a violent plague epidemic, started to repopulate, thanks to the exertions of the Mercedarian friars who invited back farmers and shepherds to the area. It was the friars, too, who constructed the small church of San Raimondo in 1709, attributing it the name of the founder of their order. On the 2nd of May tradition has it that, during the pilgrimage with the statue of Sant’Efisio from Cagliari to Nora, the procession makes a stop at the church of San Raimondo before reaching the place of martyrdom.
