Er wurde Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts von den Spaniern gebaut, um den Seeverkehr westlich des Golfs von Cagliari zu \u00fcberwachen. Das heutige befestigte Erscheinungsbild mit Mauern und T\u00fcrmchen ist auf die \u00c4nderungen zur\u00fcckzuf\u00fchren, die in der ersten H\u00e4lfte des 18. Jahrhunderts vorgenommen wurden. Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde der Torre del Coltellazzo mit einem Leuchtturm ausgestattet, der noch heute von der italienischen Marine genutzt wird.
